Bharathiar University is located in Coimbatore. It offers UG, PG, Certificate, PG Diploma and Diploma courses. All the Courses offered by the School of Distance Education, Bharathiar University have been provisionally recognized by the DEC vide its letter DEC/2009/9909, Dated 17.12.2009.

Bharathiar University was established in 1982, UGC recognized it in 1985 and is accredited with 'A' Grade by NAAC. SDE Bharathiar University was established in 1992.

Courses - University offers courses in Science (B.Sc & M.Sc), Arts (B.A & M.A), Commerce (B.Com & M.Com) , Vocational (Diploma, Certificate & PG Diploma) and Professional (BSW, MSW, MBA, BBA, BCA, MCA, MJMC, B.LI.Sc and M.LI.Sc) through distance learning.

Methodology - Under Academic activities students are provided study material and arranging of personal contact programmes. Study materials provided is in print and also in CD. Examinations are held twice a year on fixed dates. Candidates are permitted to write the examination in Tamil also. Students enrolled in courses which are conducted under annual pattern will have their annual examinations in May / June and their supplementary examinations in November / December.

Study Centres - The School has about 200 spot admission cum learning / Information centres spreading all-over India. Personal Contact Programmes are held in University campus, Coimbatore and in SDE learning and Information centres. Attending Contact Seminar is not compulsory for all courses. Personal Contact Class hours have been increased considerably to cover the syllabus more elaborately and to provide more and more computer oriented hands on training. It has study centres in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Orissa, Pondicherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal States.

Selection - Admission to courses are made without any entrance examination for all courses including MBA and MCA. Admission process is easy. Applications are issued round the year and filled in applications is accepted and enrolment is made throughout the year.

Application Procedure - Application form can be obtained from University or Study Centre or Website. Course fee is paid in two installments in all State Bank of India or Bank Of India Branches without any DD commission. For spot admission student can walk in with their original certificates with attested copies, fill application form, pay the fees in any one of the State Bank of India Branches and get admitted.
