Bharathidasan University is located in Tiruchirappalli. CDE offers 14 UG, 24 PG, 13 Diploma and 8 professional programmes. Bharathidasan University has DEC Programme-wise Regular Recognition from 2011-12 to 2013-14 for MBA, MCA, M.Sc, M.A, M.Com, PG Diploma, Diploma and Bachelor courses for conducting distance education courses. The centre of Distance Education (CDE) was established in 1992. The syllabi for the programmes offered through the CDE are the same as for the programmes offered in the colleges affiliated to the University. The B.Ed Programme is being offered from the academic year 2006-2007 with the approval of NCTE. Courses - University offers courses around 60 courses in streams like - Science (B.Sc & M.Sc), Arts (B.A & M.A), Commerce (B.Com & M.Com) , Vocational (Diploma, Certificate & PG Diploma) and Professional (BBA, BCA, MBA and MCA) through distance learning. MCA, MBA and B.Sc Animation are most popular courses of Bharathidasan University.
Methodology - Under Academic activities students are provided study material, home assignments and arranging of personal contact programmes. The CDE conducts the theory and practical classes on Saturdays and Sundays. Examinations will be normally held in the months of November/December and April/May of each academic year. Candidates with a minimum of 50% and above attendance in the practical classes only will be allowed to appear for the University practical examinations.
Study Centres - Bharathidasan University has study centres in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu. Personal Contact Centres are located in 19 cities they are at Tiruchirappali, Perambalur, chennai, cuddalore, mayiladuyhurai, thanjavur, karur, pudukkottai, madurai, tirunelveli, thoothukudi, coimbatore, salem, bangalore and hyderabad.
Selection - Admission to courses are made through entrance test at the assigned centres. Selection will be purely on merit, based on the marks scored in the qualifying examination, performance in the entrance test, and work experience, if any.
Application Procedure - Application form can be obtained from University or Study Centre or Website. The prospective candidates can submit their duly filled in application forms either in on-line or by post to the Director, Centre for Distance Education or to the Coordinators in the concerned Study Centres along with the necessary enclosures. Course fee is paid in form of demand draft in favour of the Centre for Distance Education (CDE), Bharathidasan University, payable at Tiruchirappalli, obtained from any Nationalised Bank. Candidate should write the name of the student, course, enrollment Number, and the purpose on the back of the demand draft.
