DDE, MKU is located Madurai. It offers UG, PG, Introduction, Certificate, PG Diploma and Diploma courses. Madurai Kamaraj University got DEC Programme-wise Regular Recognition from 2010-11 for conducting BGL, B.Li.Sc, B.A, M.A, BBA, BCA, B.Sc, M.Sc, B.Com, M.Com, MBA, MCA, M.Li.Sc, B.ed, Certificate, Diploma, PG Diploma, Introduction, Pre-Introduction and Foundation Programmes through distance education. Madurai Kamaraj University, established in 1966, has 18 Schools comprising 73 Departments. Distance Education Programmes and Open University Programmes are conducted through Directorate of Distance Education. DDE came into being in 1971, started Open University System (OUS) in 1977 and in 1993-94 started MBA, MCA, M.Phil & PG courses in Tourism Management and Bank Management. Courses - University offers distance learning courses in Science (B.Sc & M.Sc), Arts (B.A & M.A) and Commerce (B.Com & M.Com). Apart for these Traditional courses it also offers following courses given below -
Methodology - Under Academic activities students are provided study material, practical classes, home assignments and submission of project reports and assignments. Examinations are conducted annually or semester-wise. According to the course, students should be careful about attendance, compulsory practical classes and submission of assignments. Practical classes are conducted for Computer Courses, M.Sc (Physics & Chemistry) and Tourism & Hospitality Courses. Contact classes at selected centres are arranged on Saturdays and Sundays in Tamilnadu. There is facility at 13 centers in Tamilnadu for face to face 56 hours teaching in a year per student.
Study Centres - It has study centres in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Orissa, Pondicherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Contact Programmes are held in these centres and they also act as information cum admission centre, practical conducting and examination centres. The list of these centres is available on mkudde website. There are 113 plus Study Centres outside Tamilnadu.
Selection - Admission to courses are made twice in a year. They are through Merit and (aptitude test / entrance test) for professional courses. Application Procedure - Application form and prospectus can be obtained in person for cash, by post or from any one of the Information Centers / Study Centers of the University. Course fee is paid in form of demand draft in favour of "The Director, DDE, MKU" . Payable at Madurai. Completed form after enclosing all required documents and draft can be sent to - The Director, D.D.E., Madurai Kamaraj University, Palkalai Nagar, Madurai - 625 021. Candidates of other state Study Centers, outside Tamilnadu, should submit filled in application forms to the Center through which they wish to join. Spot admission is available at the office of the Director and at all the 37 Admission Centers in Tamilnadu.
