Panjab University is located in Chandigarh. PU, USOL offers 28 courses, which are Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Diploma and Professional Courses. Panjab University got provisional recognition from DEC in 2007 - 08 for conducting distance education courses. The University School of Open Learning (Formerly known as Department of Correspondence Studiesthe Department of Correspondence Studies), Panjab University was established in 1971. Some innovative and socially relevant Courses such as Certificate Course in Vivekanand Studies, Diploma in Human Rights and a Diploma in Naturopathy & Yoga have been recently introduced. Courses - University offers courses in Arts (B.A & M.A), Commerce (B.Com & M.Com) , Vocational (Diploma & PG Diploma) and Professional (B.ed, B.Li.Sc, MBA, M.ed and Master in Finance & Control) through distance learning. B.ed and M.ed courses are for in-service teachers only.
Methodology - Under Academic activities students are provided printed study material in Self Learning Mode, Personal Contact Programme, Response Sheets, Assignments, Video & Audio- cassette Lessons on selected topics, Dissertations / Projects in selected courses and Counseling of students on a one to one basis. To cater to the masses, for most courses, the printed study material is provided in English, Hindi and Punjabi. The Course of study, the syllabi, duration and mode of examinations are the same as prescribed for regular students of University Teaching Departments / Colleges affiliated to the Panjab University.
Note - Students of Home Science, Computer Science and Psychology that involve practicals, will have to produce certificate of completion of practical work from the Principal of any college affiliated to any university recognised by UGC. Environment Education and Road Safety is a compulsory paper, in B.A / B.Com for which the candidates are required to pass with at least 33% marks.
Study Centres - It has study centres in Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Personal Contact Programmes are held in these centres. Selection - Admission to the University School of Open Learning (USOL) is open to any Indian National who resides in any part of India or temporarily stays in a foreign country and who satisfies the admission requirements. Admission to various courses offered by the USOL will be provisional subject to confirmation by the Panjab University. The admission in USOL under Flexibility System is not open for professional courses.
Application Procedure - Application form can be obtained from University or Study Centre or Website. Completed form after enclosing required documents and draft can be submitted to University or Study Centre. The candidates sending their fee through Bank Draft are advised to prepare a draft of fee in favour of "Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh" and drawn on State Bank of India, Sector-14, Chandigarh. Students can send such draft alongwith the duly filled Enrolment Form and Examination Forms to the Chairperson, University School of Open Learning, Panjab University., Chandigarh-160014 under Registered Post or Speed Post.
