Jammu University is located in Jammu. It offers UG, PG and PG Diploma courses. University got provisional recognition from DEC in 2007 - 08 for conducting distance education courses.

The University of Jammu, accredited as 'A' grade University by National Assessment & Accreditation Council of India came into existence in 1969. The Directorate of Distance Education (formerly known as Institute of Correspondence Education) was established on 3rd March 1976 in the University of Jammu.

Courses - University offers courses in Arts (B.A & M.A), Commerce (B.Com & M.Com) , PG Diploma (Business Management) and Professional (B.ed and M.ed) through distance learning.

 

Methodology - Under Academic activities students are provided study material, home assignments and arranging of personal contact programmes. Medium of instruction and examination in all the subjects shall be English except in case of Hindi, Urdu and Dogri. For reinforcing instructions through study material and for providing academic guidance to learners, the Directorate organizes Personal Contact Programme of 20 days duration in each semester for P.G English, Hindi, Urdu, Dogri, Sociology and M.Com of 15 days. PCP is not compulsory and does not carry any marks. All P.G programmes have a compulsory component of Internal Assessment carrying 20% of marks in each paper. Students who fail to submit it within the stipulated time will be ineligible to sit in the external examination. For UG courses students shall have to attend Practicals under the supervision of a teacher/expert to be specified by the Directorate failing which he/she shall not be eligible to appear in the examination. Practicals are in Environmental Science, Geography, Statistics, Psychology, Home Science and Music.

 

Study Centres - It has study centres in Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Bhaderwah, Doda and Kishtwar. Personal Contact Programmes for PG Diploma (Business Management) is compulsory component of the programme. Every candidate shall be required to attend atleast 5 lectures in each paper in the PCP to be eligible to appear in the external examination. PCP shall be conducted at Jammu only.

 

Examination - The dates for the conduct of External Annual Examination are fixed by the office of the Controller of Examination, University of Jammu and the result is also declared by the office of the Controller of Examination. The result of candidates enrolled in DDE shall be declared by the office of Controller of Examinations along with the regular students of the University and the Certificate/ Degree shall be the same as awarded to the successful regular candidates of the University.

Selection - Admission to courses are made through Merit and entrance for professional exams. Admission shall not be granted to the Candidates who have failed to qualify the E.V.S paper of Part 2 examination of Undergraduate course.

 

Bridge Course - It is of one year duration, comprising courses of study prescribed for Part-3 of the Three-Year B.A. Degree (General) Course of University of Jammu. The students who have passed B.A. examination under 10+2+2 Pattern of the University shall be eligible to seek admission in Bridge course.

 

Application Procedure - Application form can be obtained from University or Study Centre or Website. The candidate interested to seek admission in the Directorate of Distance Education, University of Jammu shall deposit their admission fee in cash in the J&K Bank, New University Campus, Jammu only and obtain a receipt in duplicate. Out of the two receipts, the candidate shall paste one copy of the said receipt on the requisite form and submit along with other documents at the time of admission or through a Crossed Bank Draft, drawn in favour of Director, Directorate of Distance Education, University of Jammu, payable at Jammu. Admission granted to the learners to all courses shall remain provisional till the University confirms the admission.
