Vidyasagar University Distance Education Brief Information

DDE, Vidyasagar University is located in Tantigaria mouza under West Midnapore Sadar town. It offers Post Graduate & 1 year Bridge courses. Vidyasagar University got DEC Programme-wise Regular Recognition from 2011-12 for conducting M.A, M.Com and M.Sc courses through distance education.

The University was established on 29th September 1981 by an Act called the Vidyasagar University Act 1981. The Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) was established in 1994.

Courses - DDE, Vidyasagar University offers courses in M.A (Bengali, English, Sanskrit, History and Political Science), M.Sc (Applied Mathematics, Botany, Chemistry, Dietetics & Community Nutrition Management, Environmental Science, Geography, Physics and Zoology), M.Com (Farm Management) and Bridge Course in five Arts & Commerce Subjects as well as two Science subjects (Botany & Forestry and Physics & Technophysics) through distance learning.

Methodology - Under Academic activities students are provided study materials in full or in part in the form of modules, prepared paper-wise on the topics of prescribed syllabus of the course. Modules will be delivered to the students at intervals by post, by courier or by hand at the time of admission or during Personal Contact Programme. PCP's are organized to provide the students an opportunity of interaction with leading experts in the subject who will give counseling and advice rather than classroom lectures. Each student will be excepted to attend 60% of the PCP. PCPs are held ordinarily during Summer Recess, Puja Recess and Winter Recess and on holidays. There shall be two examinations : Part-I at the end of first year and Part-II at the end of second year. They will be ordinarily of same standard and pattern as the case of formal degree.

Note - Students who have genuine grievances are advised to write to the Director, In-charge, Grievance Redressal cell, Directorate of Distance Education, Vidyasagar University, Midnapore 721 102, giving their name, Enrolment Number, Course of Study etc.

Study Centres - It study centres only in West Bengal. Practical classes are held in the departmental laboratory at the University campus, 90 hours class room teaching will be held for each batch of students and each student is required to attend normally minimum 75% practical classes.

Selection - There is no age bar in admission in Distance Learning Courses. Admission is open to any person of any age within eligible criteria. There is no cut-off for any course in admission. Admission will be on first come-first serve basis for M.A courses and through merit in M.Sc courses. Candidates seeking admission to any course offered by the Directorate need not submit transfer certificate / migration certificate. All admissions are provisional subject to verification of the documents.

Application Procedure - Application form can be obtained from DDE Office or affiliated study centres or Website. Course fee is paid in form of demand draft in favour of ‘‘Directorate of Distance Education, Vidyasagar University,’’ payable at Midnapore. Eligible candidates seeking admission to M.A. (in any Arts subject) or in M. Com may send their filled in application forms complete in all respect by Registered post/Speed post / Courier along with the requisite amount of fees for admission by a demand draft to DDE office. Candidates enrolled in the Study Centre will take Admission in the concerned Study Centre.
